Cortex® XDR™, or Extended Detection and Response (XDR), is a cloud-based solution that leverages logs, alerts, and information from Palo Alto Networks and third-party security products to identify and respond to threats, find and stop targeted attacks and insider abuse, and remediate compromised endpoints. It also manages the Cortex XDR agent, which enforces security policies on endpoints to help prevent malware and data loss. Cortex XDR can also automatically scan and analyze endpoints through an on-premises server called Cortex XDR Pathfinder (through Cortex XDR’s Broker VM).

Cortex XDR is comprised of four different product offerings: (i) Cortex XDR Prevent, (ii) Cortex XDR Pro per Endpoint, (iii) Cortex XDR Agent for Cloud, and (iv) Cortex XDR Pro per Gigabyte (GB).

Cortex XDR Managed Threat Hunting (MTH) is an add-on service for Cortex XDR Pro that offers 24/7/365 monitoring from Palo Alto Networks employees on the Unit 42 threat research team to help discover advanced attacks in your organization based on data from Cortex XDR Pro.

Unit 42 Managed Detection and Response (MDR) subscriptions provide, in addition to MTH, 24/7/365 continuous alert management, investigation and response based on Cortex XDR Incidents and on data from Cortex XDR Pro.
